General History


The OUYA is an open-concept gaming console based on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The project was founded by Julie Uhrman in 2012 with an official public launch of the system on June 25th, 2013. She was assisted by dsigner Yves Béhar and product manager Muffi Ghaiali. Yves Béhar was involved with helping design the hardware for the console. Muffi Ghaiali was in charge of helping build the engineering team.

Kickstarter Campaign


The OUYA was announced on July 3rd, 2012 with the Kickstarter Campaign launching on July 10th, 2012. The campaing had been received over $1 million USD in 8 hours of their launch. The initial goal for their campaign was $950,000 USD. By the end of the campaign they had received a total of $8,596,474 USD from 63,416 backers. Their campaign broke numerous Kickstarter records at the time. One such record being that it was Kickstarter's 8th campaign ever to reach $1 million in funding. The project was also the fastest campaign to ever have reached $1 million but also held records for being the best first day performance as well as the fastest to ever reach $1 million gaining one backer ever 5.56 seconds. When the campaign was closed on August 9th, 2012 it had reached over 900% of it's initial goal making it the 5th highest earner in Kickstarter history at the time.
